Greenwood Homes for Sale
Nestled between Jackson and Cass counties, Greenwood offers many of the conveniences of a large city while seemingly in a rural area of Jackson County.
Greenwood stretches from Missouri 150 just west of Missouri 291 Highway, east and south to the Cass County line near Lake Winnebago.
Although serviced by its own police department, Greenwood utilizes the Lee’s Summit Fire Department, Lee’s Summit Water Utilities and is part of the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District. Greenwood Elementary School is located inside the city limits.
In 1867, R.W. Price, Frank Brooks, Alfred Hanscomb and the Rev. S.B. Clark filed the city name with the courts. It has been written that Clark admired the elegant and towering elm trees in the area, thus naming the city Greenwood in its honor. Elms dot the landscape to this day.
Greenwood’s population now counts over 5,000 residents in the vibrant, quaint community.
The city’s Parks and Recreation Department and Parks Board oversees five community parks and numerous fields that offer community recreational opportunities in baseball, soccer, playgrounds, shelters, basketball, horseshoes, volleyball and various open-play fields.
Greenwood is governed by a traditional Mayor-Board of Aldermen system. The city will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2017.
